A law firm seeks a dedicated Associate Attorney with expertise in immigration law, especially removal proceedings, to join its San Diego team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to representing clients in immigration matters and be skilled in navigating complex legal frameworks. This role involves preparing cases, conducting research, and representing clients before immigration courts nationwide.

Duties

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Conduct in-depth client interviews to gather relevant case information
  • Prepare legal briefs, motions, and other essential court documents
  • Research immigration laws, regulations, and relevant case law for case development
  • Provide clients with counsel regarding legal options and potential case outcomes
  • Work closely with senior attorneys to devise case strategies
  • Stay informed on current immigration laws and procedural changes affecting clients
  • Attend client meetings and consultations to discuss legal issues and solutions
  • Efficiently manage multiple cases simultaneously, meeting all deadlines

Requirements

  • Bar Admission: Active admission to the bar in at least one state, preferably California, Maryland, or Florida, or willingness to obtain it
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in immigration law, focusing on removal proceedings
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in Spanish preferred; additional languages like Portuguese are beneficial
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, with a client-centered approach
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in legal research, case analysis, and document preparation
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team setting in a fast-paced environment

Education

  • Degree: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Required: Active state bar membership in California, Maryland, Florida, or a willingness to obtain admission in one of these states

Skills

  • Strong analytical, research, and legal writing capabilities
  • Clear, client-focused communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual communication skills in Spanish (strongly preferred) and other languages like Portuguese (beneficial)
