A law firm in Boston, MA, is seeking an experienced Attorney to oversee and manage patent prosecution, due diligence, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) work. The ideal candidate will have a background in hard sciences, particularly molecular/cellular biology, gene therapy, or antibodies, and will be licensed to practice before the USPTO. This role requires significant experience in supervising technical specialists and junior attorneys, handling large global client portfolios, and providing comprehensive patent-related legal services.

Duties:

  • Manage and supervise patent prosecution activities, ensuring adherence to legal and procedural standards.
  • Oversee due diligence processes and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis for clients.
  • Provide strategic counsel on patent-related matters, including portfolio management and IP strategy.
  • Train and mentor technical specialists and junior attorneys to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Handle complex legal matters for large clients with extensive global patent portfolios.
  • Coordinate with clients to address and resolve patent-related issues and provide proactive legal advice.
  • Ensure compliance with USPTO regulations and procedures in all patent-related activities.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with clients, providing exceptional service and support.

Requirements:

  • At least 4-5 years of experience in patent prosecution, due diligence, FTO, and counseling matters.
  • Proven experience in supervising and training technical specialists and junior attorneys.
  • Experience managing large clients with extensive global patent portfolios.
  • Strong background in hard sciences, specifically molecular/cellular biology, gene therapy, or antibodies.
  • Advanced degree in a related scientific field is strongly preferred.
  • License to practice before the USPTO.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in molecular/cellular biology, gene therapy, antibodies, or a related field is strongly preferred.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the USPTO to practice before the Patent Office.

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution, due diligence, and FTO analysis.
  • Strong background in relevant hard sciences, particularly molecular/cellular biology, gene therapy, or antibodies.
  • Excellent supervisory and mentoring skills, with experience training technical specialists and junior attorneys.
  • Ability to manage and handle large global client portfolios effectively.
  • Strong communication skills for client interactions and legal counseling.
  • Ability to provide strategic legal advice and develop comprehensive IP strategies.
