Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking an experienced Estate Planning Attorney to join its team in Indian Wells, California. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex estate planning and tax matters for high-net-worth individuals, including business owners, retirees, farmers, cattle ranchers, and physicians. The ideal candidate will have 6 to 15 years of experience in estate planning, including expertise in drafting sophisticated estate planning documents and navigating Federal and California tax laws. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with senior attorneys and manage and grow the firm’s estate planning practice.

Location:

  • Indian Wells, California

Duties:

  • Provide estate planning services for high-net-worth individuals, including drafting revocable and irrevocable trusts with generation-skipping transfer tax provisions
  • Advise clients on sophisticated estate planning strategies, including ILITs, CRTs, and FLPs
  • Assist in the probate and trust administration process
  • Guide clients on business succession planning and formation of business entities
  • Collaborate with clients’ CPAs and other advisors to provide comprehensive estate planning solutions
  • Manage ongoing client relationships and cultivate new business through existing clients and referrals
  • Work closely with senior attorneys to grow and develop the estate planning practice
  • Stay updated on Federal estate tax laws, California tax laws, and real property tax law
  • Support senior attorneys in transitioning the practice as they approach retirement

Requirements:

  • 6 to 15 years of estate planning experience, including work with high-net-worth clients
  • Extensive experience in drafting complex estate planning documents (trusts, wills, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of Federal estate tax laws and California tax laws
  • Familiarity with business succession planning and the formation of business entities
  • Proven ability to work with CPAs and other professional advisors to provide holistic solutions to clients
  • Ability to manage and grow an existing practice, leveraging client relationships and referrals
  • Strong communication, client relationship, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • LLM in Taxation (preferred but not required)

Certifications:

  • Active member of the State Bar in California

Skills:

  • Expertise in estate planning for high-net-worth individuals
  • Strong drafting and legal research skills
  • In-depth knowledge of Federal estate tax laws, California tax laws, and real property tax laws
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance on business succession planning
  • Familiarity with working alongside clients’ CPAs and other advisors
  • Strong interpersonal and client relationship skills
  • Ability to manage a practice and generate new business opportunities
