Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Family Law Attorney to join its expanding team in Katy, TX. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal representation across a range of family law matters, including divorce, custody, and property division. The attorney will manage case files, work with a team of paralegals, and engage with clients to provide strategic legal advice. This position offers a hybrid work environment, allowing for flexibility between in-office and remote work, and provides a path for professional growth.

Duties

  • Collaborate with clients to identify marital and non-marital assets, developing strategies for effective property division
  • Handle child custody cases, helping clients gather evidence and prepare for courtroom or mediation advocacy
  • Draft and supervise legal pleadings, using the Texas Family Law Practice Manual as a guide
  • Represent clients at court hearings and participate in mediations as required
  • Work with the firm’s owner and paralegals to ensure smooth progression of cases through the litigation process
  • Maintain regular client communication, providing updates and case reviews
  • Track billable hours and provide recommendations for process improvements

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of family law experience, both in and out of the courtroom
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, particularly in high-stress situations
  • Ability to advocate for clients in custody matters, irrespective of gender
  • Familiarity with the Texas Family Law Practice Manual and experience drafting legal documents
  • Comfortable handling cases that go to trial but also appreciate the value of settlements
  • Ability to manage and delegate tasks to paralegals effectively

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Certifications

  • Active law license in Texas
