Job Overview: A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Litigation Associate to join its Chicago office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of high-exposure cases, including complex commercial litigation, construction, class actions, and mass torts, among others. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly motivated, and possess excellent research and writing skills. The role will involve direct client interaction and participation in various aspects of litigation, from pre-trial through to appeals.

Location:

  • Chicago, Illinois

Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of 25-30 insurance defense matters.

  • Take depositions, attend hearings, and participate in mediations as required.

  • Draft and submit pleadings, discovery requests, motions, and briefs.

  • Monitor trials, evaluate trial records for errors, and draft appellate briefs.

  • Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other tools.

  • Review and analyze documents and materials for production.

  • Review and analyze briefs and trial transcripts to develop appellate arguments.

  • Evaluate insurance policies and assess claims for potential coverage issues.

  • Actively investigate claims and formulate case handling strategies.

  • Report regularly to insurance carrier clients and insureds.

  • Prepare cases for trial or mediation and participate in the process as necessary.

  • Travel out of state for trial-related matters, if required.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree obtained between 2019 and 2023.

  • Admission to the Illinois Bar.

  • Minimum of 1 to 5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for prior insurance defense experience.

  • Proven experience in taking depositions.

  • Excellent academic credentials.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Illinois Bar.

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal writing and communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build client relationships.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
