Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a skilled and motivated Tech & Data Associate with 2-5 years of experience in data protection, cybersecurity, and technology law. The ideal candidate will have experience advising companies on a variety of privacy laws, including CCPA, CPA, VCDPA, CTDPA, GDPR, and others. A focus on data privacy compliance and security incident response is a plus. Candidates with CIPP certification and experience in AI governance will be given preference. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge issues at the intersection of technology and law.

Location:

  • Minneapolis, MN

Duties:

  • Advise clients on privacy laws such as CCPA, CPA, VCDPA, CTDPA, GDPR, and others.
  • Draft and review data processing agreements, information security agreements, and software/SaaS agreements.
  • Provide guidance on IP, IT licensing, development, and services agreements.
  • Assist clients in security incident response and compliance planning.
  • Collaborate with clients to implement effective data protection strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date on evolving privacy laws and regulations to provide proactive legal counsel.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing data processing and information security agreements.
  • Strong understanding of privacy laws such as CCPA, CPA, VCDPA, CTDPA, GDPR.
  • Experience in AI governance and advice (preferred).
  • Ability to manage multiple client matters simultaneously and independently.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active attorney license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Ability to be promptly admitted in the state of Minnesota.
  • CIPP certification (preferred).

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in legal research and use of privacy-related legal tools.
  • Ability to advise clients on complex legal issues regarding technology and data privacy.
