The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in drafting patent applications, responding to office actions, and conducting thorough prior art searches. This role requires a deep understanding of patent law as it relates to technology and corporate transactions, with a preference for candidates who have experience in a law firm setting and hold a USPTO patent Bar membership.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare patent applications, ensuring adherence to legal standards and technical accuracy.
  • Respond to office actions and correspondence from patent offices promptly and effectively.
  • Conduct prior art searches to support patentability assessments and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Perform due diligence for corporate transactions, including technology transfers and licensing agreements.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their technological innovations and provide strategic advice on intellectual property matters.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in patent law, industry trends, and technological advancements.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing patent-related documents and filings.
  • Provide expert analysis and recommendations for patent portfolio management and strategy.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience drafting patent applications and responding to office actions.
  • Proven ability to conduct prior art searches and perform patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Experience with due diligence in corporate transactions and technology transfers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Strong academic credentials, including an M.D. or Ph.D. in Biology or Chemistry.
  • Law firm experience is highly desirable.
  • USPTO Patent Bar membership is strongly preferred.

Education

  • M.D. or Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.

Certifications

  • USPTO Patent Bar membership is strongly preferred.
