A growing and reputable criminal defense firm in San Diego, CA, is seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join its team. This role involves handling a wide range of criminal cases, from misdemeanors to serious felonies, and offers the opportunity to take full responsibility for case management, litigation, and trial preparation. Location

Duties

  • Litigate pre-trial hearings, motions (e.g., preliminary hearings, PC 1538.5 motions, PC 995 motions), and jury trials.
  • Negotiate plea bargains and dispositions for both felony and misdemeanor cases.
  • Conduct client meetings to discuss case strategies and manage all aspects of client cases, including hearings, filings, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Represent clients in administrative DUI hearings and temporary restraining order hearings.
  • Research, draft, and argue briefs, pleadings, and motions in court.
  • Prepare for and conduct jury and bench trials.
  • Collaborate with paralegals, law clerks, and legal assistants, and delegate tasks as necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of criminal law experience, specifically handling misdemeanors and felonies.
  • Active membership with the California State Bar, with no disciplinary record.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various Southern California courthouses.
  • Ability to independently manage a heavy caseload.
  • Confidence and proficiency in public speaking, courtroom appearances, and trial advocacy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications and Skills

  • Active member of the California State Bar.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Preferred experience in conducting jury trials.
