A law firm seeks a skilled and experienced Life Science Patent Agent to join its Charlotte office. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work within a leading life sciences team on high-profile patent matters related to pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and ag-bio. The ideal candidate will bring over 3 years of experience in patent prosecution and a strong scientific background, including a Ph.D. in a relevant field. The position will also involve contributing to patent counseling, portfolio management, and litigation support, providing a dynamic and rewarding environment for professional growth.

Duties:

  • Oversee patent prosecution for life sciences technologies, focusing on pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and ag-bio.
  • Assist attorneys with patent counseling, including strategic portfolio management and patent evaluations.
  • Conduct detailed patent analysis and provide opinions on patentability, freedom to operate, and validity.
  • Support post-grant proceedings, including inter-partes reviews (IPRs) and reexaminations.
  • Contribute to litigation support efforts, including gathering evidence and preparing materials for patent disputes.
  • Collaborate with a team of legal professionals to deliver exceptional service to clients in the life sciences sector.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly in life sciences fields such as pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and ag-bio.
  • Demonstrated experience in patent counseling, portfolio management, and providing legal opinions.
  • In-depth knowledge of post-grant proceedings and litigation support.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to handle complex and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work within a team and with clients.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or a related scientific field.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent law, specifically within the life sciences.
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Ability to manage patent portfolios and handle complex patent prosecution matters.
  • Effective at working under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
