Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in San Jose, CA, is seeking an Associate Immigration Attorney to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 1 to 4 years of immigration law experience to further develop their career. The Immigration Attorney will manage a diverse caseload, represent clients in removal proceedings, and work closely with the firm’s immigration team on various legal matters. The role offers ample room for growth and the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with experienced professionals.

Location:

  • San Jose, CA

Duties:

  • Explain complex immigration law concepts and provide strategic legal solutions.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Manage and organize a caseload of immigration cases, including family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, and detained cases.
  • Conduct client intake interviews at detention centers.
  • Prepare, review, and file various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of immigration application packets.
  • Work with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations to address changes in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients, conduct strategic consultations, and determine the appropriate legal strategy.
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court and USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to clients regarding potential benefits and case outcomes.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a range of immigration matters.

Requirements:

  • 1 to 4 years of experience practicing immigration law, including family-based petitions, EOIR proceedings, detained cases, and citizenship applications.
  • Strong organizational and caseload management skills.
  • Team-oriented, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other attorneys and legal staff.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and client communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to move legal cases forward and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with Case Management Software preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar Admission in any state.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop effective strategies.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
  • Strong client service and relationship-building skills.
