Defense Associate Attorney

A law firm in Purchase, NY is seeking a Defense Associate Attorney with 1-5 years of experience in handling general liability and/or professional liability claims. The ideal candidate will possess strong litigation experience, superior analytical and communication skills, and a background in representing architects and engineers or handling complex construction claims. The role involves managing a caseload with partner oversight, drafting legal documents, and participating in all phases of litigation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage own caseload with oversight from partners.
• Draft motions, pleadings, and discovery responses.
• Conduct legal research and write detailed memorandums.
• Attend hearings and court conferences to represent clients.
• Conduct and defend depositions, including preparing and questioning witnesses.
• Attend inspections related to cases.
• Consult with expert witnesses to support case strategies.
• Participate in mediations and settlement discussions.
• Prepare for and participate in trials, including case strategy and witness preparation.

Requirements:

• 1-5 years of experience in handling general liability and/or professional liability claims.
• Experience in representing architects and engineers or handling complex construction claims is a plus.
• Must have litigation experience and superior analytical and communication skills.
• Admission to the New York State Bar is required (Connecticut admission is a plus).

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar (Connecticut Bar certification is a plus).
