Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Attorney with at least 5 years of experience to join its education and student services team. The ideal candidate will possess strong advocacy, litigation, and communication skills. Experience in areas such as student disabilities, civil rights, and constitutional law is a plus but not required. Location:

  • Braintree, MA

Duties:

  • Represent school clients in student disciplinary hearings, IEP team meetings, and appeals to state and federal agencies and courts.
  • Prepare and represent witnesses in various legal proceedings.
  • Advise clients on internal investigations, including Title IX matters.
  • Draft and amend school policies and student handbooks.
  • Conduct legal research and provide legal advice to clients.
  • Provide training to school administrators, elected officials, and teachers.
  • Perform related work as necessary.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in civil litigation, with preference for candidates in education, municipal, or labor/employment law.
  • Strong courtroom experience with advocacy skills.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents, including discovery requests, pleadings, memoranda, and trial documents.
  • Knowledge of civil procedure, rules of evidence, and appellate procedures.
  • Ability to understand complex information and communicate legal advice clearly.
  • Strong organizational and independent work skills.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle sensitive matters.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts Bar in good standing.
  • Additional Federal bar admission is preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong research and legal writing skills.
  • Experience with Title IX matters and student services law is a plus.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
