Job Title: Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A law firm in Bethesda, MD, seeks a dedicated and experienced Associate Attorney to join their litigation team. The ideal candidate will conduct legal research, draft legal documents, represent clients in court proceedings, and maintain client relationships.

Job Duties:

  • Perform extensive case-related research into relevant laws to support arguments and theories of cases.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel on behalf of clients.
  • Manage and collaborate with junior associates, paralegals, and law clerks, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Draft pleadings, correspondence, and agreements.
  • Maintain client relationships through regular communication, effectively explaining legal proceedings and concepts.
  • Keep clients informed of case statuses and developments.
  • Communicate professionally and responsibly with opposing counsel and court officials.
  • Ensure the office is informed of case statuses and deadlines.
  • Organize both digital and physical case files.
  • Update case and task statuses regularly using Asana or similar tools.
  • Handle multiple cases simultaneously, managing more minor cases independently and supporting more significant matters.
  • Represent clients in various legal proceedings, including court hearings, mediations, conferences, and depositions.
  • Assist in trial preparations, organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, and scheduling witnesses.
  • Attend Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs, bar association events, and networking functions.
  • Contribute to the firm's marketing efforts through blog posts, articles, and social media engagement.
  • Perform other legal tasks as assigned by Principals.

Requirements:

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Maryland Bar and the District of Columbia Bar is a plus.
  • Eligibility for admission to the District of Columbia Bar if not already admitted.
  • Active participation in local bar associations is desirable.
  • Strong commitment to client service and problem-solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with empathy and patience.
  • Sound judgment, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy in legal documents.
  • Interest in advancing knowledge of litigation and family law.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and expand litigation skills.
  • Ability to write clearly and persuasively.
