Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a Tech Transactions and Data Privacy (Incident Response) Associate Attorney to join their Philadelphia, PA office. This role involves handling sophisticated legal matters related to technology transactions, data privacy, and incident response. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience, excellent academic credentials, and the ability to work closely with clients on complex privacy law issues, including U.S. federal, state, and international regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of case work-up, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Draft and revise legal documents such as briefs, complaints, pretrial motions, memoranda, and discovery requests.
  • Provide practical legal advice on data privacy laws and regulations to clients, ensuring compliance with U.S. federal, state, and international privacy laws.
  • Act as a key contact for client interaction, handling sensitive and complex matters with professionalism.
  • Lead and assist in privacy incident response, including data breach investigations and communications with regulatory authorities.
  • Advise clients on technology transactions, including negotiating and drafting contracts related to software licensing, cloud services, and data-sharing agreements.
  • Conduct thorough legal research to ensure the firm provides up-to-date advice on privacy, data security, and technology law.
  • Work collaboratively with other attorneys and legal professionals on multidisciplinary cases.
  • Stay updated on evolving regulations and emerging trends in data privacy and cybersecurity law.

Requirements:

  • Significant litigation experience in privacy litigation, including managing all aspects of casework and trial preparation.
  • Proven ability to draft legal documents such as briefs, complaints, pretrial motions, and discovery requests.
  • Strong legal research skills with experience drafting memoranda and legal opinions.
  • Ability to offer clients practical, actionable legal advice on privacy and technology-related matters.
  • Experience managing privacy incidents, including data breaches and regulatory reporting.
  • Familiarity with U.S. federal, state, and international privacy laws, such as the GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and others.
  • Client-facing experience with a track record of managing sophisticated legal matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Pennsylvania State Bar (or ability to become admitted in PA).
  • Privacy certifications such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) are a plus.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a law firm or similar legal environment handling privacy litigation or technology transactions.
  • Prior involvement in high-profile data breach incidents and regulatory inquiries.
  • Knowledge of federal and state privacy litigation and regulatory frameworks, including experience with trial preparation.
