A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney with 2.5 to 5 years of experience in litigation, particularly in toxic tort or asbestos-related matters. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work remotely or in-office (Los Angeles, CA) while collaborating on a dynamic and diverse caseload. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to handle cases independently while also working as part of a close-knit trial team. The firm offers exposure to all stages of litigation, from research to trial, with a focus on creative defenses and thorough legal analysis.

Duties:

  • Research and analyze complex legal issues related to defense litigation.
  • Draft and submit briefs, motions, and memoranda for review by senior attorneys or directly for court filings.
  • Represent clients in court by arguing motions and addressing legal issues.
  • Prepare for and attend depositions of plaintiffs, witnesses, and experts.
  • Investigate factual claims and recommend further inquiries or investigations as needed.
  • Develop and apply medical and factual defenses in litigation matters.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss case strategy and progress.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel on legal issues and potential case resolutions.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys in preparing cases for trial.

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated with a strong ability to work independently while maintaining communication with the legal team.
  • Ability to perform thorough legal research, write compelling briefs, and think strategically about case resolutions.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle complex litigation matters and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Creative approach to legal challenges, especially in the defense of toxic torts and other complex cases.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing of the California State Bar.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the California State Bar is required.

Skills:

  • Expertise in legal research and analysis, particularly in complex litigation.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a focus on clear, strategic, and persuasive writing.
  • Strong oral communication skills for court appearances and negotiations.
  • Familiarity with Federal and State Court rules and civil procedures.
  • Experience in asbestos, benzene, or other toxic tort litigation is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
