A law firm is seeking a Special Education Attorney to join their team in Hauppauge, NY. The ideal candidate will advocate for children's rights and interests in matters related to special education law.

 

Job Overview:

  • Advocate for an appropriate evaluation to protect a child's rights and interests.
  • Protect a child's rights to free, appropriate public education as they advance from one grade to another.
  • Ensure that a child with special needs is educated in the least restrictive environment.
  • Tailor a child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) according to their needs and advocate for necessary accommodations.
  • Provide legal representation to families of children with disabilities in special education law matters.
  • Assist parents in evaluating their case to determine the best course of action.
  • Represent clients in meetings, hearings, and other proceedings related to special education disputes.

 

Duties:

  • Advocate for appropriate evaluations for children with special needs.
  • Ensure children's rights to free, appropriate public education are upheld.
  • Work to educate children with special needs in the least restrictive environment.
  • Customize Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and advocate for necessary accommodations.
  • Provide legal representation to families of children with disabilities.

  • Represent clients in meetings, hearings, and other proceedings related to special education disputes.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the NY State Bar and in good standing.
  • 3+ years of experience practicing law, with a focus on special education or disability rights preferred.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the NY State Bar and in good standing.
