Patent Agent

A law firm in New York City is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with a background in aerospace engineering and experience in engine technology. This role is focused exclusively on patent prosecution matters. The ideal candidate will be a registered patent agent with either examining experience at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or patent drafting experience within a law firm. The position offers an opportunity to leverage deep technical knowledge in aerospace or mechanical engineering to contribute to cutting-edge technology prosecution.

Duties:

• Manage and prosecute patent applications related to aerospace engineering and engine technology.
• Utilize deep technical knowledge to draft and file patent applications, including detailed technical descriptions and claims.
• Conduct patentability analyses and prepare responses to Office Actions from the USPTO.
• Collaborate with inventors and technical experts to gather necessary information for patent applications.
• Review and interpret patent claims, technical specifications, and legal requirements.
• Provide guidance on patent strategy and portfolio management.
• Assist with appeals and other proceedings before the USPTO as needed.
• Stay current on developments in patent law and technology trends relevant to aerospace and engine technology.

Requirements:

• Background in aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering.
• Registered patent agent with either examining experience at the USPTO or patent drafting experience in a law firm setting.
• Strong preference for previous experience as a patent examiner.
• Industry experience in aerospace or engine technology is a plus.
• Excellent academic credentials, including undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering.
• Strong writing skills and sharp analytical ability.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (required).
• Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

Certifications:

• Registered Patent Agent with the USPTO.
