A prestigious law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Tax Associate to join its Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced attorney to contribute to a dynamic practice, working with both nonprofit and for-profit developers on a variety of affordable housing projects. Duties:

  • Represent developers in the development, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and sale of affordable multifamily housing projects.
  • Work extensively with federal, state, and local affordable housing programs, ensuring compliance and maximizing tax benefits.
  • Provide strategic advice on partnership tax structures, federal income tax credits, and related areas of tax law.
  • Collaborate with clients, including developers and investors, to craft tailored solutions for complex tax matters in affordable housing projects.
  • Manage and execute tax-related tasks for large-scale, multi-faceted projects.
  • Draft and review legal documents, memorandums, and agreements with a focus on accuracy and clarity.
  • Mentor junior associates and contribute to the overall growth and development of the team.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of substantive experience in partnership tax law, with a strong focus on federal income tax credits.
  • Strong background in accounting, with excellent academic credentials.
  • Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage complex tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Must be a member in good standing of the Massachusetts State Bar or eligible for admission.

Education:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • LLM in Taxation is preferred, but not required.
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Massachusetts (or eligible for admission).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of partnership tax law and tax credits, especially as they relate to affordable housing.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to tackle complex legal issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proven attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and work closely with clients and colleagues.
