Job Overview: A well-established law firm is looking for a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join its dynamic Electronics & Software team. The firm specializes in intellectual property law, assisting clients in cutting-edge industries. This role requires a highly skilled attorney with a focus on U.S. patent applications and fluency in both Japanese and English. The position will involve collaboration with the firm’s Tokyo office and offers an exciting opportunity for professional growth in the global IP field.

Duties:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. patent applications.
  • Work directly with clients and inventors to understand inventions and draft patent claims.
  • Collaborate with the Tokyo office to manage cross-border patent prosecution matters.
  • Conduct patent searches and analyze patent portfolios.
  • Provide strategic guidance on patenting and IP protection.
  • Draft and review correspondence with the USPTO and other legal bodies.
  • Assist in developing strategies for IP litigation and patent litigation matters.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in U.S. patent prosecution.
  • Bi-lingual fluency in Japanese and English.
  • Experience in the electronics and software patent space is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to handle complex legal issues and work independently.

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration is required.

Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in patent prosecution processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
