Job Title: Litigation Attorney
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid Work Environment)

Job Overview

A prominent law firm in Washington, DC is currently seeking a talented and motivated Litigation Attorney to join their dynamic team. The firm focuses on progressive causes and high-impact litigation involving voting rights, redistricting, First Amendment issues, and more. As a litigation attorney, you'll have the opportunity to handle challenging cases in both state and federal courts, including at the appellate level and in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.

This role is ideal for recent or current federal law clerks or participants of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Honors Program with an interest in using their litigation skills to protect democracy and support progressive clients.

Duties

  • Represent clients in cases related to voting rights, redistricting, First Amendment, and other significant issues.
  • Draft compelling and well-reasoned legal documents, including motions, briefs, and other written submissions.
  • Conduct legal research and collaborate with colleagues to develop case strategies.
  • Participate in depositions, hearings, and trials, including opportunities for courtroom appearances.
  • Manage case files and coordinate with clients and opposing counsel.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and mission-driven team culture.

Requirements

  • Strong legal writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear and persuasive legal documents.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and the ability to present arguments effectively.
  • Familiarity with the civil litigation process and procedural rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A commitment to progressive causes and the firm’s mission.
  • Federal clerkship or DOJ Honors Program experience is highly desirable.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Completion of a federal clerkship or participation in the DOJ Honors Program is a plus.

Certifications

  • Admission to the Bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (preferably DC or the relevant jurisdiction).
