A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney to join its expanding team in Mount Pleasant, SC. The ideal candidate will have experience in general litigation, with a preference for those with backgrounds in construction law or personal injury defense. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse cases involving construction defects, personal injury, and general liability insurance defense. The successful candidate will be expected to handle all aspects of litigation, including client interactions, legal research, and courtroom appearances.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in general litigation matters, including construction defect, personal injury, and liability defense cases.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents related to litigation.
  • Take and defend depositions, and argue dispositive and discovery motions in court.
  • Prepare reports for adjusters and assist with case management.
  • Collaborate with clients, opposing counsel, and colleagues to develop case strategies and resolve disputes.
  • Review and analyze complex discovery materials to support case development.
  • Attend hearings and trials as needed, advocating for clients in various legal proceedings.
  • Provide expert legal advice to clients while maintaining strong relationships and ensuring their needs are met throughout the litigation process.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the South Carolina State Bar.
  • Prior experience in general litigation, with preference for those with expertise in construction defect, personal injury, or liability defense.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience with deposition handling, motion practice, and complex discovery review.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Admission to the North Carolina Bar or willingness to obtain is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the South Carolina State Bar is required.
  • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar or willingness to waive in is preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in drafting legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and reports.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills for client interaction and litigation proceedings.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a caseload effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
