A law firm in Anchorage, AK is seeking an Associate Attorney with 1-3 years of experience, preferably in litigation (civil and/or criminal). The successful candidate will work on criminal and civil defense cases, both independently and as part of a team. This position offers unique training experiences for individuals interested in further developing their litigation skills. Responsibilities include meeting and communicating with clients, researching and drafting complex motions, reviewing discovery, and handling depositions, hearings, oral arguments, and trials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload involving criminal and civil defense matters.
  • Conduct client meetings and maintain regular communication to provide updates on case status.
  • Research legal issues and prepare memoranda, pleadings, and briefs.
  • Draft and argue motions, including motions to dismiss, summary judgment motions, and discovery-related motions.
  • Review and analyze discovery documents.
  • Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, oral arguments, and trials.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and partners on case strategy and trial preparation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely billing records.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Alaska State Bar or willingness to become admitted promptly.
  • 1-3 years of relevant legal experience, with a preference for litigation experience (civil and/or criminal).
  • Clerkship experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and technology.
