A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Litigation Associate Attorney for its Washington, DC office. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in federal and state environmental laws, including compliance, enforcement, transactions, and litigation. This role requires strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities, with a focus on managing cases involving remediation under CERCLA and other environmental laws. The successful candidate must be self-driven, collaborative, and possess outstanding academic and professional credentials. Admission to practice law in Washington, DC is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Environmental Litigation:
    Represent clients in complex environmental litigation and enforcement matters involving federal and state environmental statutes, including CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Water Act, and Clean Air Act.
  • Compliance Advisory:
    Provide clients with guidance on compliance with environmental regulations, assisting them in navigating both federal and state environmental statutes.
  • Transactional Environmental Support:
    Advise clients on the environmental risks and liabilities in corporate and real estate transactions, conducting due diligence and assessing regulatory obligations.
  • Remediation Management:
    Oversee the representation of clients in environmental remediation matters, particularly those requiring cleanup under CERCLA and similar state laws.
  • Legal Research and Writing:
    Conduct extensive legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents in connection with litigation and advisory work.
  • Client Relations:
    Engage with clients on a regular basis, providing updates, strategic advice, and solutions to complex environmental regulatory challenges.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    Work closely with other attorneys, paralegals, and staff to develop case strategies and provide exceptional legal representation.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • 2-3 years of experience in environmental law, particularly in litigation, compliance, and transactional matters.
  • Licensure:
    • Must be admitted to practice law in Washington, DC or eligible for admission.
  • Environmental Law Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, including CERCLA, environmental compliance, enforcement, and litigation.
  • Skills:
    • Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to draft detailed and persuasive legal documents.
    • Analytical ability to interpret and apply environmental laws to a wide range of client issues and litigation strategies.
  • Attributes:
    • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple cases simultaneously.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative team-oriented approach.
    • Excellent academic and professional credentials.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.):
    Must hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

    Must be admitted to the Washington, DC Bar or be eligible for admission.
