Duties:

  • Provide expert counsel on patent prosecution and strategy to biotech and pharmaceutical clients.
  • Draft and file patent applications, navigating all stages of prosecution from filing to final approval.
  • Conduct in-depth due diligence and provide patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement opinions.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and refine patent strategies, ensuring their intellectual property is effectively protected.
  • Support the management of patent portfolios, advising clients on optimal strategies to protect their innovations.
  • Manage multiple patent matters simultaneously while ensuring deadlines are met and quality is maintained.
  • Engage in patent-related research and analysis to stay informed of developments in the field and strengthen strategies.
  • Play an active role in maintaining and enhancing client relationships through proactive communication and legal expertise.
  • Assist in the growth of the practice, contributing to process improvements and expanding client services.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution and counseling, specifically in the biotech or pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Strong background in patent strategy, drafting, and due diligence.
  • Experience working in a larger law firm setting but seeking the close-knit, flexible environment of a smaller firm.
  • High attention to detail and ability to handle complex matters with precision.
  • Ability to manage a workload independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
  • Enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Client-focused, with strong communication skills and the ability to foster relationships.

Education:

  • Advanced degree in a biological or chemical discipline (Ph.D. preferred).

Certifications:

  • U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registration is required.
