Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Junior to Mid-Level Associate Attorney to join its family law practice. Duties

  • Draft legal documents, including memoranda, pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and correspondence.
  • Conduct legal research to support case strategies and arguments.
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests such as interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions.
  • Prepare and produce documents for discovery, including subpoenas and subpoenas duces tecum.
  • Conduct and defend depositions, prepare outlines, and assemble exhibit notebooks.
  • Perform trial preparation tasks, including drafting direct and cross-examinations, witness preparation, and assembling trial notebooks.
  • Conduct witness interviews and gather relevant case information.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including motion hearings, trials, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) sessions such as mediation.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Attorney on complex case matters and provide litigation support as needed.
  • Maintain an organized litigation bag and ensure readiness for hearings, depositions, and ADR sessions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing family law, with a strong understanding of contested divorce litigation preferred.
  • Admission to the Bar in at least one of the following jurisdictions: D.C., Virginia, or Maryland.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and courts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and implement innovative legal solutions.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management abilities to handle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A dedication to providing exceptional client service that exceeds expectations.
  • Friendly, professional demeanor with a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.

Education

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active Bar membership in good standing in D.C., Virginia, or Maryland.
