Job Overview: A law firm specializing in intellectual property law is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. This role involves collaborating with attorneys, clients, and professionals to provide comprehensive patent services.

Job Duties:

  • Communicate verbally and in writing effectively with clients, attorneys, business professionals, and third parties.
  • Produce high-quality deliverables, respond to correspondence, and answer inquiries promptly and efficiently.
  • Meet deadlines consistently while adhering to firm standards and client expectations.
  • Foster positive relationships within the firm and with external partners.
  • Adhere to firm policies and practices, ensuring compliance at all times.
  • Engage in various activities, including extensive computer work, digital/virtual meetings, and other sedentary and physical tasks as required.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by supervising attorneys.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology or related field; advanced degree (PhD) preferred in Molecular and Cellular Biology or similar disciplines (excluding chemistry, medical device, or pharmaceutical sciences).
  • Registration as a Patent Agent with the USPTO.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Preferably prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm.
  • Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, patent due diligence, or trademark matters is advantageous.
