Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a motivated Junior Associate Attorney to join its Family Law practice, specializing in Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases. This is an entry-level position that provides an excellent opportunity to work with experienced attorneys in a supportive, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving the Hispanic community and assisting clients through the complexities of family law matters.

Location:

  • Jamaica, NY

Duties:

  • Attend court appearances, including status conferences and hearings.
  • Draft legal documents such as petitions, waivers, motions, and appeals.
  • Review legal documents prepared by legal assistants and paralegals.
  • Independently manage caseloads and advise clients on legal matters.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on strategic case planning.
  • Handle a high volume of cases while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Participate in team meetings and client consultations as needed.

Requirements:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in New York. Newly admitted attorneys will be considered.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus, as is a strong desire to help clients in need.
  • Experience from a law clinic, internships, or clerkships will be considered.
  • Ability to prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Ability to handle both in-person and virtual court appearances.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams/Zoom software.
  • Admission to the New Jersey Bar, Connecticut Bar, or Federal District Courts is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to practice law in New York. Other admissions (e.g., New Jersey, Connecticut, Federal District Courts) are a plus.
