A law firm seeks to hire an Associate Attorney for its Jackson, MI office. This role offers an exciting opportunity for both experienced and newly licensed attorneys to manage a high-volume caseload in consumer and commercial debt collection. The ideal candidate will gain valuable courtroom and litigation experience, handling cases from initiation through trial.

Duties:

  • Court Calls: Prepare and manage court appearances, ensuring timely and accurate execution of proceedings.
  • Litigation and Hearings: Handle motions, contested hearings, arbitrations, and trials, contributing to all stages of litigation.
  • Pleadings and Legal Documents: Draft, review, and approve various legal pleadings, including complaints, motions, discovery requests, and post-judgment proceedings.
  • Case Management: Oversee assigned cases, ensuring timely progression through the litigation process and effective resolution.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active Michigan law license.
  • 1-3 years of experience in consumer or commercial debt collection or related litigation areas.
  • Additional licensure in Kentucky, Indiana, and/or Ohio is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Comfort and ability to appear in court and manage client interactions independently.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Michigan.
  • Licensure in additional states (Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio) is advantageous.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong drafting abilities, particularly in pleadings and motions.
  • Ability to handle high-volume cases and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Experience with litigation, motions, and court hearings.
