Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a Junior Associate to join its Data Privacy and Cybersecurity team. This position requires 2-3 years of experience in privacy-related matters, including privacy incident response, compliance counseling, risk management, and privacy litigation. Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of state and federal privacy laws, such as CCPA, GLBA, and HIPAA, and experience with biometric and health laws. The firm offers a hybrid work schedule with an expectation of in-office presence weekly.

Duties:

  • Provide legal guidance on privacy incident response and compliance counseling.
  • Assist clients in risk management related to data privacy and cybersecurity issues.
  • Engage in privacy litigation, including state and federal privacy law matters.
  • Draft and review privacy policies, data protection assessments, and compliance frameworks.
  • Maintain familiarity with evolving privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and state biometric and health laws.
  • Work closely with partners and clients on data privacy and cybersecurity issues.
  • Participate in meetings, providing legal advice and updates on privacy-related matters.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or related legal fields.
  • Knowledge of privacy incident response, compliance counseling, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with federal and state privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and state biometric and health laws.
  • Admission to the State Bar in the jurisdiction where the candidate will practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • CIPP/US certification required (must obtain within one year of hire if not already certified).
  • Active admission to the State Bar.

  • Strong knowledge of data privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
