The firm is looking for a driven and detail-oriented attorney with a strong background in employment law, particularly in the public or educational sector. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, and a passion for providing legal guidance across a broad range of employment-related issues.

Duties:

  • Provide expert legal counsel on various employment law matters, including hiring practices, employee relations, terminations, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour disputes.
  • Handle employee disciplinary matters, labor grievances, arbitrations, and collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Represent clients before administrative agencies such as the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), Office of Civil Rights (OCR), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and New York State Division of Human Rights (NYSDHR).
  • Manage employment-related litigation from discovery through trial, including drafting motions for discovery, motions to dismiss, and summary judgment.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and provide strategic recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related agreements, policies, and procedures.
  • Advise clients on education-related legal matters, including special education services and impartial hearings.
  • Collaborate closely with HR, management, and other legal teams to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Stay up to date with changes in employment law and provide proactive guidance on potential impacts.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the relevant state bar association.
  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in labor and employment law, particularly in the public or educational sectors.
  • Experience with state and federal court litigation preferred.
  • Deep understanding of employment laws at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex legal issues and deliver sound, practical advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:
