Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its team in Raleigh, NC. The ideal candidate will have experience handling Social Security disability cases at all administrative levels, from initial applications to the Appeals Council. While federal court experience is not required, it is considered a plus. This role offers a hybrid work schedule, with the flexibility to work from home two days a week, and requires travel within North Carolina to meet clients and attend hearings.

Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of Social Security disability cases from initial filing through the hearing level.
  • Assist and provide guidance to legal assistants on Social Security disability caseloads.
  • Conduct client intake reviews and manage ongoing client communications.
  • Review and summarize voluminous medical records related to cases.
  • Prepare briefs and requests for on-the-record decisions to secure favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Prepare clients for hearings and advocate on their behalf before Administrative Law Judges.
  • Handle client representation in all phases, including case development, hearings, and appellate advocacy.
  • Deliver opening and closing statements, cross-examine vocational witnesses, and maintain a comprehensive understanding of each case’s record.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in North Carolina.
  • Experience with Social Security disability cases, including at all administrative levels.
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently and efficiently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach, with a demonstrated commitment to helping clients facing difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Familiarity with Social Security regulations, POMS, HALLEX, and other relevant materials.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in North Carolina.

Skills:
