Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced Trusts & Estates Associate to join its Private Wealth & Family Office Practice Group in New York. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience in estate planning and trust and estate administration. Location:

  • New York, NY

Duties:

  • Draft and review wills, trusts, and estate planning documents.

  • Provide counsel on basic planning, including will and trust preparation, asset protection, and minimizing tax implications in wealth transfers.

  • Utilize complex wealth transfer techniques, including GRATs, CRUTs, sales to IDGTs, and Dynasty Trusts.

  • Prepare gift and estate tax transactions, including Forms 709 and 706, asset valuations, subtrust funding, and GST tax issues.

  • Draft receipt and release agreements and handle fiduciary appointments.

  • Advise on tax-effective methods of charitable giving, and assist in the establishment and administration of charitable foundations.

  • Communicate directly with clients, offering practical solutions and strategies for estate planning.

  • Participate in business development strategies and client pitch preparation.

Requirements:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Admitted to the state bar of New York or ability to be admitted.

  • At least 2 years of experience in estate planning and trust and estate administration.

  • Experience working on large estates with complex tax plans.

  • Proficiency in preparing Federal and State estate tax returns, probate documents, and Surrogate's Court filings.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • Strong academic credentials are required.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York Bar (or the ability to gain admission).

Skills:

  • Knowledge of estate and trust income taxation and estate taxation is preferred.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
