Job Overview: A boutique law firm seeks a skilled and proactive Patent Agent to join its dynamic team. This role provides direct client interaction in all facets of patent application drafting and prosecution. The ideal candidate will enjoy engaging directly with clients, leading disclosure meetings, and independently managing patent cases, including conducting Examiner interviews and representing clients before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). This position offers a collaborative environment where Patent Agents are encouraged to develop a strong, independent patent prosecution practice.

Los Angeles, CA

 

Duties:

  • Manage direct client interactions for all aspects of patent application drafting and prosecution.
  • Lead or participate in disclosure meetings to understand client inventions thoroughly.
  • Draft and file patent applications, incorporating client feedback and strategic insights.
  • Conduct Examiner interviews, draft responses, prepare appeal briefs, and present oral arguments at the PTAB.
  • Serve as the primary contact and lead on patent cases, fostering strong client relationships.
  • Collaborate within the firm to support professional growth and independent practice development.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Ability to work independently, manage case files, and interact effectively with clients.

 

Education:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science preferred.
  • Other technical degrees considered, including Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Software Engineering.

 

Certifications:

USPTO Patent Agent registration preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Strong background in patent drafting, prosecution, and client management.
  • Familiarity with cutting-edge technology areas, including AR/VR, machine learning, and software.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle complex legal tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach to patent law practice.
