A law firm is seeking a Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Agent with a deep technical background in the biological sciences. The successful candidate will have extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, performing due diligence investigations, and managing patent portfolios. This role requires strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills, along with the ability to work closely with clients and team members to provide exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to biotechnology, ensuring accurate protection of client innovations.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients on patent portfolio management and development.
  • Conduct patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and due diligence investigations for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing agreements.
  • Prepare and submit responses to office actions and represent clients in front of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and team members to develop tailored patent strategies that align with client business goals.
  • Analyze and provide opinions on patent infringement, validity, and licensing matters.
  • Stay current with patent law, particularly in biotechnology and life sciences, to advise clients effectively.
  • Assist in handling patent oppositions and appeals as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their IP needs are met with proactive, high-quality service.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and performing due diligence investigations, ideally in a law firm environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong technical expertise in biological sciences with the ability to understand and convey complex scientific concepts in legal terms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain patent strategies to clients.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior team members and guide client interactions.
  • Attention to detail and exceptional analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with clients directly, building strong relationships and trust.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional client-focused patent services.

Additional Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in a law firm or legal setting with exposure to intellectual property law is preferred.
