A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Litigation Associate to join its growing defense team in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in litigation and a strong background in complex case defense, including mass torts, class actions, and other high-risk litigation matters. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work with a national team, develop case strategies, and manage various litigation aspects, including depositions, motions, and settlements. The role also provides opportunities for leadership and professional growth in a collaborative work environment.

Duties

  • Develop and implement case defenses and trial strategies autonomously
  • Support a national trial and coordinating counsel team managing litigation for large corporate clients
  • Analyze state and federal case law, regulations, and legal precedents to support pre-trial motions and submissions
  • Draft original motions, legal documents, and discovery materials for complex litigation matters
  • Conduct depositions, including lay, expert, and corporate representative depositions
  • Interview and prepare witnesses for litigation and regulatory body testimony
  • Argue motions and participate in court hearings
  • Develop and maintain client relationships through both written and oral communication
  • Draft pre-trial reports and perform risk analysis to assist in case resolution
  • Participate in mediations, status conferences, settlement negotiations, and other hearings
  • Collaborate with co-defense counsel and manage global discovery strategies
  • Negotiate settlements with plaintiffs and opposing parties
  • Supervise and assign work to paralegals involved in case preparation
  • Engage in networking and professional development to grow client relationships
  • Demonstrate leadership within the local community through bar association and other professional memberships
  • Serve as a resource for colleagues and junior attorneys in the firm’s practice areas
  • Provide support to Shareholders, Partners, and Senior Counsel as needed
  • Meet annual billable requirements and comply with the firm's timekeeping policies

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in at least one state bar
  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience within a law firm
  • Experience in a billable work environment
  • Expertise in mass torts, class actions, environmental litigation, commercial litigation, abuse, harassment, discrimination, or other complex risk management areas
  • Proven client service experience and ability to manage client relationships
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with colleagues
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal software tools
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with great attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active state bar license
