A law firm seeks an experienced attorney to join its market-leading Energy & Infrastructure practice in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will specialize in renewable energy projects and energy offtake agreements, including power purchase agreements (PPAs) and related contracts. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with innovative clients in the renewable energy sector.

Duties

  • Advise clients on energy projects focused on renewable energy and energy storage.
  • Draft and negotiate power purchase agreements (PPAs), including physical and virtual agreements, for both buyers and sellers.
  • Develop and review corporate PPAs and energy storage offtake agreements.
  • Provide counsel on agreements for carbon removal credits, nuclear energy offtakes, and renewable energy credits.
  • Handle hedging agreements, resource adequacy sales agreements, ISDA agreements, and EEI agreements.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to meet their strategic energy and infrastructure goals.
  • Navigate and resolve complex legal and regulatory challenges in energy transactions.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4–8+ years of legal experience in renewable energy projects, energy offtakes, and infrastructure agreements.
  • Expertise: Demonstrated ability to handle complex contractual negotiations and transactions in the energy sector.
  • Bar Membership: Admission to the state bar in IL or eligibility to become admitted.
  • Attributes: Highly motivated, excellent communication skills, and a client-focused approach to legal practice.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active bar membership in good standing in the practicing state.
