A law firm in Woodland Hills, CA, is seeking an Appellate Attorney with substantial experience in appellate practice or as a law clerk/judicial attorney. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, excellent legal writing and research skills, and experience in appellate advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze trial court records to identify appellate issues.
  • Draft high-quality appellate briefs, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct thorough legal research using Westlaw and other resources.
  • Present oral arguments before appellate courts.
  • Collaborate with trial attorneys to ensure a comprehensive understanding of case issues.
  • Develop and implement effective appellate strategies.
  • Stay current on relevant legal precedents and changes in appellate law.
  • Provide legal advice and support to clients regarding appellate matters.
  • Participate in moot court practice sessions to prepare for oral arguments.

Requirements:

  • Appellate experience, either in practice or as a law clerk/judicial attorney, is required.
  • Admission to the California Bar and in good standing.
  • Strong academic record from a reputable law school.
  • Experience in a law journal or moot court, or other academic awards demonstrating legal excellence.
  • Proven track record as a self-starter with a proactive approach to case management.
  • Demonstrated ability to write excellent briefs and conduct effective oral arguments.
  • Strong legal research abilities, preferably with experience using Westlaw.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to and active membership in the California State Bar.
