A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Patent Attorney with 2-4 years of experience. The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field. This role involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and supporting due diligence. Strong time management, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Conduct patent searches and provide due diligence support.
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions and other correspondence from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Advise clients on patentability, patent prosecution strategies, and infringement issues.
  • Collaborate with inventors, technical experts, and clients to ensure comprehensive and accurate patent filings.
  • Review and analyze patent portfolios for strategic planning and risk management.
  • Manage multiple patent prosecution matters and adhere to deadlines.
  • Support intellectual property litigation and enforcement as needed.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and technical fields relevant to practice.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar eligible).
  • If applicable, licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • If applicable, admission to the Washington, DC Bar.
