A law firm in Petoskey, Michigan, is seeking a Litigation Associate Attorney with 3-7 years of experience in civil and general litigation. The ideal candidate will have deposition experience, expertise in auto negligence, premises liability, or general negligence matters, and excellent research, legal brief writing, and communication skills. They must possess experience in writing and arguing motions in court, drafting and responding to discovery requests, and a general understanding of medical records. An active membership in good standing in the State Bar of Michigan is required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct depositions and gather testimony from witnesses and parties involved in litigation matters.
  • Handle cases involving auto negligence, premises liability, or general negligence matters and general insurance liability.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal briefs to support case strategies.
  • Write and argue motions in court hearings.
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
  • Maintain a general understanding of medical records relevant to litigation cases.
  • Apply working knowledge of Michigan Court Rules and Rules of Evidence.
  • Utilize familiarity with Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence.
  • Adapt to and learn new computer software relevant to legal practice.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active membership in good standing in the State Bar of Michigan.
  • 3-7 years of experience in civil and general litigation.
  • Deposition experience and expertise in auto negligence, premises liability, or general negligence matters.
  • Excellent research, legal brief writing, and communication skills.
  • Experience writing and arguing motions in court.
  • Proficiency in drafting and responding to discovery requests.
  • General understanding of medical records.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Court Rules and Rules of Evidence.
  • Familiarity with Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence.
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

 

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.
