Job Overview:
A renowned law firm is seeking a Partner level attorney specializing in health and welfare employee benefits to join its Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice. Remote candidates may also be considered on a case-by-case basis. The successful candidate will provide legal advice to businesses on a broad range of health and welfare plan matters, including regulatory compliance and plan administration. The role will involve drafting and negotiating service provider agreements, advising on key regulations such as the Affordable Care Act, COBRA, HIPAA, and handling compliance issues related to TiC and CAA 21.

Location:

  • Columbus, OH

Duties:

  • Advise businesses on all aspects of health and welfare plans, including wrap plans, cafeteria plans, and flexible benefits arrangements
  • Provide guidance on compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), COBRA, HIPAA, Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, and other relevant laws
  • Draft and negotiate service provider agreements for health and welfare benefit plans
  • Assist clients with compliance issues related to TiC (Transparency in Coverage) and CAA 21 (Consolidated Appropriations Act 2021)
  • Resolve legal and administrative issues related to health and welfare plan administration
  • Offer proactive legal advice on compliance and litigation matters related to health and welfare benefit plans

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience providing legal counsel on health and welfare employee benefit plans
  • Knowledge of ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other key regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate service provider agreements
  • Experience providing proactive legal advice on compliance and litigation issues related to employee benefits
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage complex client needs

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Expertise in employee benefits regulations and compliance
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with legal teams
  • Strong client management and relationship-building skills
