A law firm in San Diego, CA, is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with 1-3 years of experience in complex civil litigation, construction, and personal injury matters. The ideal candidate will possess strong independent case evaluation, research, and writing skills. They will be expected to handle a range of responsibilities, from drafting legal documents to managing discovery and supervising junior staff. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while providing outstanding service to clients.

Duties:

  • Independently evaluate cases, provide recommendations, and support litigation strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, counsel, and the senior managing partner.
  • Strategize and recommend legal actions, including propounding and responding to discovery requests.
  • Perform legal research, draft memoranda, and supervise junior attorneys in these tasks.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents such as complaints, motions, and other pleadings.
  • Evaluate, draft, and argue dispositive motions.
  • Prepare for, take, and defend depositions of percipient, party, and expert witnesses.
  • Prepare for and attend court hearings and mediation sessions.
  • Supervise junior attorneys and paralegal staff in trial and arbitration preparation.
  • Provide excellent client service and ensure compliance with firm, client, and insurance carrier billing and reporting requirements.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of legal experience in complex civil litigation, construction, and personal injury matters.
  • In good standing with the California State Bar; licensure in other states is a plus.
  • Experience in civil litigation.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the California State Bar; additional state licensure is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and case evaluation abilities.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Strong oral advocacy skills and familiarity with rules of evidence.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and time management skills.
  • Experience with courts, E-Filing systems, and legal software (e.g., Excel, Word, IManage, Outlook, Serengeti Tracker, Time Matters, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior attorneys and paralegal staff.
