Job Overview: A law firm seeks an experienced Bankruptcy Attorney to join their team and oversee a range of bankruptcy cases across the state of Virginia. This role involves handling high-volume bankruptcy matters while ensuring adherence to relevant rules and internal timelines. The ideal candidate will be a proactive professional with a strong ability to manage multiple cases, collaborate with various stakeholders, and provide high-quality legal services. The firm offers a flexible work-from-home option for the right individual.

Duties:

  • Manage a large caseload of statewide bankruptcy matters, ensuring timely and efficient progress.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the firm, clients, vendors, outside counsel, courts, trustees, and other involved parties.
  • Review and process documents such as Payment Change Notices, Post-Petition Fee Notices, Transfers of Claim, and Proofs of Claim.
  • Conduct detailed Chapter 13 Plan reviews to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Represent clients in court hearings, both virtual and in-person as necessary.
  • Prepare and file legal documents, including Motions for Relief from the Automatic Stay, Objections to Chapter 13 Plans, and various other pleadings.
  • Proactively handle urgent and sensitive matters that require escalation.
  • Maintain and update case files and client information in the firm’s management system.
  • Draft legal documents, ensuring clarity, precision, and compliance with applicable regulations.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar of Virginia (and any other states where applicable).
  • A minimum of 3 years of bankruptcy law experience, including familiarity with Chapter 7 and 11 cases, and plan confirmation processes.
  • Strong experience in real estate, mortgage, or commercial litigation preferred.
  • Familiarity with FDCPA, RESPA, TILA, and other applicable state and federal debt collection and real property laws is a plus.
  • Knowledge of foreclosure law is advantageous, though candidates without this expertise should be willing to learn.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines and client expectations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong commitment to maintaining ethical standards and client confidentiality.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active and in good standing with the state bar of Virginia (and any other applicable states).
