Job Overview

A law firm seeks a dedicated Immigration Attorney specializing in EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review) to join its growing team in Los Angeles, CA. Duties

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Manage a diverse caseload, focusing on detained and non-detained individuals.
  • Visit detention centers and conduct intake interviews with detained clients.
  • Prepare and file various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review and make necessary adjustments to immigration application packets.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients and develop case strategies.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on immigration matters.
  • Conduct strategic consultations with potential clients, determining the best legal strategy for their cases.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances and USCIS interviews.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a wide range of immigration cases.
  • Provide ongoing legal analysis to assess potential benefits and risks for clients' cases.

Requirements

  • Experience:
    • 1-5 years of experience in Immigration Law, specifically in EOIR and removal defense.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and effectively prioritize tasks.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
    • Proven track record of moving legal cases forward and achieving favorable outcomes.
    • Experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, detained cases, citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Language:
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Technology:
    • Familiarity with case management software is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Must be licensed to practice law in California.

  • Legal Research and Analysis:
    • Ability to conduct thorough legal research and analyze complex immigration laws to provide sound legal advice.
  • Case Management:
    • Proven experience in managing a caseload, ensuring all deadlines and requirements are met.
