A law firm seeks a motivated litigation attorney to join its team in Belleville, Illinois. The firm is dedicated to providing a wide range of legal services, including family law, real estate law, business law, estate and trust law, and civil litigation. This opportunity is ideal for attorneys with less than five years of experience, particularly those with a background as a State’s Attorney, Public Defender, or in general civil litigation. The firm offers a collaborative and supportive work environment, where attorneys have the chance to practice at a high level without the constraints of large firm dynamics.

Duties:

  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, third parties, and others involved in cases.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Develop and manage discovery strategy, including handling discovery requests and productions.
  • Prepare for, take, and defend depositions.
  • Represent clients in court, both remotely and in-person as needed.
  • Assist in managing various components of ongoing litigation cases.
  • Handle multiple tasks and prioritize time-sensitive documents.
  • Travel to courts across the Southern Illinois region as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Less than 5 years of legal experience, with a background in any form of litigation (family law experience is not required).
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Illinois.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel to various courts within the Southern Illinois area.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Illinois.

Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and documents efficiently.
  • Organized with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to different court settings and litigation procedures.
