Job Overview:

A law firm seeks a motivated Associate Attorney to join its team, specializing in medical malpractice and catastrophic injury cases. This position offers an opportunity to handle all aspects of litigation, including pre-suit investigations, discovery, trials, and appeals. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, passionate about justice, and eager to learn. Prior experience is preferred but not required, as the firm is open to training the right individual.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in medical malpractice and personal injury litigation, from initial investigations to trial and appeal.
  • Conduct detailed investigations of facts and analyze medical care in malpractice cases, including those involving birth injuries.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, and discovery requests.
  • Perform legal research on relevant medical and legal issues pertaining to cases.
  • Maintain and organize case documentation in both physical and digital formats.
  • Draft complaints, discovery materials, notices of intent, and demand letters.
  • Conduct depositions of parties involved, including plaintiffs, defendants, and expert witnesses.
  • Meet with clients and professionals to discuss case strategies and details.
  • Attend federal and state court hearings and proceedings.
  • Participate in firm meetings, and events, and contribute to marketing efforts as needed.

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of legal experience (training provided if necessary).
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Michigan Bar admission is preferred, but consideration will be given to those awaiting bar results.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Empathy and understanding when working with clients facing emotionally challenging cases.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and ability to interpret medical records.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a fast-paced caseload.
  • Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Practice Master, Clio) is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Michigan Bar admission preferred (candidates awaiting bar results will be considered).

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research and writing abilities.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Exceptional communication and client management abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple cases and working autonomously.
