A law firm seeks an experienced attorney to join its Public Law practice group. The ideal candidate will provide legal counsel to municipal clients, focusing on areas such as land use, zoning, education law, and municipal litigation. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment while serving the legal needs of various local government entities.

Duties

  • Provide guidance on municipal law, education law, SEQR compliance, code enforcement, zoning, and land use matters.
  • Attend and represent municipal clients at public board meetings, including town, village, city, fire district, and school district meetings.
  • Draft and review legal documents such as local laws, resolutions, contracts, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent municipal clients in litigation, including preparing legal documents for Article 78 proceedings.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review various contracts, leases, bid documents, easements, indemnification agreements, and interlocal agreements.
  • Prosecute cases involving code enforcement issues, including building code violations, zoning infractions, and dangerous dog cases.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Public Law, with a strong preference for municipal or governmental legal work.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex legal issues with diplomacy and sound judgment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.
