A law firm seeks a dedicated and skilled Post-Conviction Relief Attorney for an exciting opportunity in Orange County. The Post-Conviction Relief Attorney will manage a caseload, interact directly with clients, and collaborate with a team of attorneys and legal assistants. Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and assist in preparing legal documents relevant to their cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate convictions, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and requests for early termination of probation.
  • Attend and represent clients at motion hearings, providing counsel and advice on strategic next steps post-hearing.
  • Manage open criminal cases such as arraignments, pre-trial motions, pleas, and sentencing.
  • Prepare legal motions, conduct client interviews, and perform legal research to support case development.
  • Analyze the potential outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents.
  • Collaborate with both criminal and immigration law teams, offering cross-functional support when needed.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize a varied caseload.
  • Provide clients with legal analysis and insight into possible benefits of their cases.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in criminal defense or immigration law, preferably with a focus on post-conviction matters.
  • Experience handling criminal cases, including at the state and local levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload and navigate complex legal issues.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred, though not required.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting and contribute to a positive work environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar admission in the state of California (or awaiting admission, if recently graduated).

Skills:

  • Knowledge of criminal defense law, specifically post-conviction relief processes.
  • Ability to draft legal motions, briefs, and other legal documents with precision.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to assess case outcomes.
  • Client-focused approach with an emphasis on clear communication and legal advice.
  • Familiarity with case management software and legal technology is a plus.
