A law firm in New Britain, CT, is seeking an Attorney. The candidate will utilize excellent research and writing skills to represent clients in court, argue motions, and oversee legal proceedings. They will prepare legal documents, provide counsel to clients, and work closely with administrative staff to ensure smooth operations. The attorney must possess strong leadership skills and be able to handle a heavy caseload with minimal supervision.

 

Duties:

  • Appear in court on behalf of clients and argue motions during legal proceedings.
  • Complete legal research and prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs.
  • Oversee paralegals, law clerks, and administrative staff.
  • Prepare various legal documents, such as motions, pleadings, briefs, and correspondence.
  • Counsel clients by assessing options and determining the best course of action.
  • Identify client conflicts and determine case strategies for resolution.
  • Provide leadership to administrative staff concerning client billing, meetings, and invoicing.
  • Argue motions in court on behalf of clients.
  • Utilize advanced computer skills working with legal research programs (Westlaw and Lexis).

 

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of an accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree.
  • Active Bar membership, in good standing with no disciplinary history.
  • 2+ years of experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a law firm environment.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Strong knowledge of legal research programs such as Westlaw and Lexis.
  • Ability to handle a heavy caseload with little supervision.
  • Public speaking, decision-making, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivated self-starter able to work independently and communicate effectively with clients and the team.
