A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Agent with a strong background in biological sciences. The ideal candidate will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting due diligence investigations, and evaluating patent portfolios. The successful candidate will work directly with clients and collaborate effectively with colleagues, delivering exceptional client service in all aspects of intellectual property protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications related to biotechnology inventions.
  • Provide strategic advice on patent portfolio development and management.
  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and due diligence investigations.
  • Evaluate and advise clients on the strength and scope of existing patents and patent portfolios.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored intellectual property strategies.
  • Assist in preparing responses to office actions issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices.
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, and clients to develop patent strategies for protecting innovative biological inventions.
  • Maintain awareness of current patent law developments and advise clients accordingly.
  • Assist in opposition and appeal proceedings when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a closely related field.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, evaluating patent portfolios, and performing due diligence investigations, preferably in a law firm setting.

  • Strong technical background in biological sciences with the ability to comprehend and articulate complex biotechnology concepts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to present complex information clearly and succinctly.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills and a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work directly with clients and build strong professional relationships.
