Job Overview:

A reputable law firm is seeking a dedicated Entry-Level Immigration Attorney to join their team in Bakersfield. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly admitted attorney, or a recent graduate awaiting bar admission, to gain hands-on experience in immigration law and develop a successful legal career. The position offers a chance to work alongside an experienced team, manage a caseload, and represent clients in various immigration matters, including removal proceedings and family-based immigration.

Location:

  • Bakersfield, CA

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and provide strategic legal solutions to clients.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Manage a caseload, ensuring timely progress and adherence to deadlines.
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained individuals at detention centers.
  • Prepare and file immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review immigration application packets and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations to stay informed about changes in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients for consultations and develop case strategies.
  • Develop legal strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court or USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to determine potential benefits for clients' cases.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a variety of immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated interest in immigration law through law school clinics, volunteer work, or internships.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered).
  • Strong team player with a collaborative attitude, willing to work with other attorneys and legal staff.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward.
  • Experience with case management software is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar Admission (or pending admission if a recent graduate).

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple cases.
  • Legal research and writing proficiency.
  • Knowledge of immigration law and procedures.
  • Client-focused with a strategic approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience with case management software is a plus.
